Think 2Wice Records proudly presents the Hands In The Air EP from Gavin Burrows, a UK club scene vet with a knack for pillaging previous techno and acid house styles which were once all the rage, only with an updated 2009 flair. Whether it be the enticing, call-and-response tech house-influenced title track, the acidy “Husbands and Wives” and “Song For Brian,” the Think 2Wice camp has proven that their reach extends far beyond the Mo-Kan region, even if the more popular music blogs out there still refer to them as “them Kansas boys.”

Chicago-based DJ/Producer Chrissy Murderbot has made a bold commitment to producing a new mixtape every week for the next 52 weeks. Each mix will be based on either a theme or genre. Chrissy reports he will come up with esoteric themes like “songs built around idioms that wouldn’t have made sense 100 years ago” and “songs with toponyms in the title.” I’m not even trying to act like I knew the definition of a toponyms before I wrote this. Its a pretty clever idea if you ask me. His first mix is a collection of dancehall gems from the late 80’s/early 90’s. We love dem joints here at u:move. If Chrissy’s first mix is a sign of whats to come, then you may want to add this link into your browser’s favorites list. http://yearofmixtapes.blogspot.com Booyah-kah!

In conjunction with u:move’s latest event at the Mosaic Lounge in the Power and Light District on Thursday May 28 featuring Treasure Fingers, the locally-based dance record label, Think 2Wice, will be celebrating their release of Norrit’s Feel The Remix EP. Norrit, a Lawrence, KS producer also known as Iggy Baby, has accumulated quite a bit of blog love over the past couple of years, for what it’s worth. However, his brilliant flip of KC hip hop act, Royce Diamond’s “Everybody Move,” which appeared on Norrit’s The Rhythm EP, is probably the best thing since sliced bread. Ok, maybe not. But it is a shining example of what can happen when local hip hop artists work with local dance producers all in the name of the party. One writer from XLR8R Magazine even suggested that “Move” was “one of the best party tunes of 2008, hands down.” Beyond my obvious craze for this song, the new EP from Norrit features some pretty nutty remixes of other tracks previously heard on The Rhythm EP from the likes of White Girl Lust, B.Rich, Dubbel Dutch, Phosho and Norrit himself. With styles ranging from juke to rave, dark to disco, Feel The Remix is bound to bust heads open from clubs coast to coast and beyond. Thursday night at Mosaic is turning out to be a can’t miss event, in itself. We will see you on the dance floor.
