Starting out as a vinyl collector with turntables (some might call that a “DJ”) about seven years ago, I kind of feared the day that DJ software would turn into a PlayStation vs. XBox kind of arms race. But we do live in an age where everyone has to have the newest, hottest stuff and those who don’t are left out to dry. PCs and Macs, Serato and Traktor, Facebook and Twitter…and now it appears that Legitmix.com is giving Soundcloud a run for its money. Charged by the idea that you can, in fact, make DJ mixes, club remixes and borrow (or blatantly “reuse”) samples in general and get paid for your work, Legitmix is out to give DJs and producers a legitimate avenue of revenue. Diplo, who’s also playing alongside Switch as the Major Lazer tandem at the Critical Mass division of the Kanrocksas Music Festival on Friday, August 5th is officially championing the very first Legitmix.
