TICKET GIVEAWAY - Human League @ Uptown Theater [9.16.11]

Most who did not grow up in the 80s would likely be familiar with at least one song from British synth-pop new wave band, The Human League, who got their start in the late 70s.  That song being the super cheesy, “Don’t You Want Me” (you’d know it if you heard it).  But their 1981 triple-platinum album, Dare, is widely credited with influencing various electronic artists from then until now such as La Roux, Madonna, Moby and more.  Having worked with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, attended Grammy Awards shows and seeing over 20 million of their records fly off the shelves at record stores around the globe, their show at the Uptown Theater on Friday (Sept. 16) is not one to miss if you remember the 80s halfway decently.  Their newest album, Credo, was released in March of this year.

80s baby?  If you can drop a comment on this post with your best “Why I should win free tickets to Human League at Uptown” story, you will win a pair of tickets to The Human League show at the Uptown Theater this Friday.  May the most rad of 80s babies win!

I lost my virginity to a 19 yr-old baby-sitter while “Human” by Human League played ( Depeche Mode and New Order were in the mix too). Great song. If you give me these tickets, my girlfriend and I will try to behave.

I have my 30 year class reunion this Sat and Sun.  I went to Macy’s to buy some shirts and ended up spending 60 dollars on one of those Izod sports shirts with the little alligator on them just like I used to wear in high school.  When I went to pay for it, I told the pretty blonde cashier that I was going to my 30th year HS reunion so she said then I guess I don’t need to ask you if you qualify for the 25% over 55 discount, of course I took it, some day she may realize that that would mean I graduated when I was 25.  Anyway, if I win the tickets, I’ll wear my new Izod to the concert, not enough time to grow a mullet though.

I have a Dare T-shirt still and I have all my early Human League Vinyl extended mixes.I too will wear wear a Lacoste shirt even though I did not have one in the 80’s.  Plus I’m still in love Joanne and

I love the 80’s, Human League, and Men Without Hats! If I won tickets I would dance the entire time, safely of course! smile I tried to sing the safety dance in drunken karaokee once, and my friend walked of stage in the middle of the song, but I kept going (much to the disappointment of the rest of the audience)! The tickets would not be wasted on me and I promise to help anyone around me have fun too! Thanks U:Move! U:Rock!

My best friend since we were toddlers is in town for the weekend. It would be great to dance the night away at the show!

i second stephanie mcgurns motion.  I loke the 80s and will be a dancing machine all night long.  Cant go wrong with a littlw we can dance, action please let me remenice about being 5 again

Because too many people will be there for ‘Don’t You Want Me’ and not enough like me there for ‘Being Boiled’ and ‘Empire State Human’...

I would love to attend this concert. I have loved the Human League since the 80’s when hitting the dance floor at the all night club and how to look chic and still be able to move was the most complicated decision I had to make.  One of my best friends is coming in from Minnesota for her mothers 71st birthday and they are going to the Uptown for her mom’s birthday.  They invited me to join them at the Uptown tomorrow evening but I can’t afford the ticket. I run a community artists’ space and all the money I make subsidizes the expense of keeping it open for local visual artists, songwriters, poets and the community.  between my community projects and my own artistic endeavors I work 12-18 hour days.  It doesn’t feel like work when you do what you love but I would love to for one night go back in time and just be twenty something again!

Because I believe in love…love action. And I want my friend Mark homes to go and get his girl. “)
